Over 3,000 Sac State students face hunger.

Post

The ASI Food Pantry has always been a space that welcomes and empowers Sac State students facing hunger.

Since 2015, we have helped thousands of Hornets graduate and succeed in the journey of life. This year, amidst CalFresh cuts affecting 395,000 households in California and a 4-week government shutdown delaying November food assistance dollars, we rallied our local Sacramento community to help our students at risk of food insecurity.

This meant putting together both the largest and most consecutive food and fundraising drives in our ASI history, with more than 20 organizations hosting special holiday team events to bring together shelf-stable foods, toiletries, menstrual products, and fresh fruits and vegetables for Sac State students.

We are so grateful to share that together, we helped over 800 students and their families get a month’s worth of groceries during the Thanksgiving season. Over 240 students attended our signature holiday event Friendsgiving Feast, for students unable to return home to visit their families this year. We offered a hot holiday meal complete with quinoa salad, honey glazed carrots, herb stuffing, creamy mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, slow-roasted turkey, and garlic scallion gravy. Renaissance Society members came out to volunteer as a greeters and KSSU emceed & hosted a round of human bingo with prizes. See photos here.

Our 2025 fundraising campaign has ended! Thank you for your generous support!
