What is CSSA?

“It is the mission of the California State Student Association to maintain and enhance the accessibility of an affordable, quality education for the people of California.”

The California State Student Association provides a unified voice for over 430,000 students in the California State University system. The Association represents each of the system’s 23 campuses, which range in diversity from the northern California redwood campus of Humboldt State University to the southernmost campus of San Diego State University.

CSSA facilitates and coordinates communication among campus student associations to bring about unity by addressing campus and statewide issues affecting the students of the California State University system. CSSA is an officially-recognized governing entity representing students of the CSU system to the Governor, State Legislature, and the CSU Board of Trustees.

Sacramento State’s Role in CSSA

Sacramento State Students support CSSA’s work in advocating for CSU students through SIRF contributions. SIRF, or the Student Involvement and Representation Fee, is an optional Two Dollar attachment to Fall and Spring tuition, and it ensures that CSSA is empowered to advocate for greater consideration of student issues during our State Budget Season, among other things. CSSA holds monthly meetings to address issues affecting students on CSU Campuses, and Sacramento State sends voting representatives to every monthly CSSA meeting.
