Student Code of Conduct

Published 8.23.2024

1. Please be mindful of our shared resources: Take only what you need to ensure there is enough for everyone in our community, respecting the limits set by the ASI Food Pantry.

2. Treat each other with kindness and respect. Avoid using offensive language, swearing, or derogatory terms. Yelling and physical aggression towards students, Food Pantry staff, and Food Pantry volunteers is strictly prohibited.

3. ASI Food Pantry staff are required to document and report incidents, which may be referred to the Office of Student Conduct. Please report any ASI Food Pantry policy violations to Food Pantry staff.

4. We adhere to the University Union’s building policies. Bicycles, scooters, and skateboards must be parked outside the building, except for ADA-designated mobility devices which are permitted inside.

5. Everyone must adhere to the Sacramento State campus policy regarding animals. All animals, with the exception of ADA service animals, are not allowed in the building.

6. Everyone has the right to maintain their privacy. Please refrain from taking photos or videos of students, Food Pantry staff, and Food Pantry volunteers without permission from Food Pantry staff.

7. Please keep conversations focused and professional, avoiding discussions on sensitive topics such as personal relationships, political opinions, or religious beliefs.

8. Please come prepared. Bring your OneCard and reusable grocery bag. A one-time exception is granted to each student. To use the Food Pantry, you must be a currently enrolled Sac State student.

Food Inspection and Expiration Policy

Published 8.23.2024

We inspect all food items (non-perishable and perishable) before stocking our shelves. The standard guide we follow comes from the Sacramento Food Bank and is available for public reference.

Because food manufacturers use different codes to ensure products are sold at the peak of their quality and taste, we use this guide to objectively inspect donations and purchases from community partners.

General Overview on How to Interpret Best By/Sell By/ Expiry Date
Inspection Guide for Shelf-Stable, Refrigerated, and Frozen Items

For Example: Dry Cereal (cup or bagged), according to the guide, is good to eat up to *one year* past its expiry date. If we received a donation of multigrain cheerios with an expiry date of September 1st, 2023, and we stocked it on the shelves on August 31st, 2024, it would meet our quality standard and be made available to our students up until September 1st, 2024!

  • Use all tools and equipment provided safely with guidance from staff.
  • Sign in and out on the clipboard each shift.
  • Notify staff of any health and safety issues or potentially hazardous situations that may pose a risk to self or others and report any accidents or incidents.
  • Treat students using the Food Pantry with compassion, sensitivity, and care.
