Candidate Statement:
Hi, I’m Amya Terry, a third-year social work major from Cohort 2,
focused on criminal justice reform and dismantling systemic
racism. I love the resources Black Honors College (BHC) provides,
but with today’s political climate, I’m running for Director to
ensure our space is defended and sustained.
BHC is a space for Black students to be supported, connected, and
empowered—but it can feel intimidating. Not everyone has top
grades or fully understands BHC beyond the honors label. To me,
it’s about expanding opportunities often denied to our
communities. We need to be intentional about reaching every Black
student—because Black unity wins.
Beyond academics, I organize and fight for change. As a student
organizer for the CSU Undergraduate Student Assistant Union, I’ve
spent months building power with students who work on
campus—meeting new student assistants, pushing for better pay and
working conditions, organizing protests against tuition and fee
increases, supporting the Palestinian movement, and helping
at-risk youth to overcome cycles of systemic inequality.
I want to bring that same energy to BHC because we need a leader
who’s real, driven, and ready to fight for us.
Let’s build a stronger BHC together.

Candidate Statement:
Hello, My name is Chibuike Michael Ezeh, and I am running for the
position of Director of the Black Honors College. Despite being a
member of the first inaugural cohort of the Black Honors College,
I have also been working closely together with the staff as one
of two student assistants for the Black Honors College for quite
some time now.
Having been in various leadership roles in the past, I can say
that I have gained valuable leadership experience under my belt.
Each day, I try my best to form real connections and bonds not
just with my fellow cohort members, but each and every person
attending Sacramento State University. Being able to speak up and
speak my mind is definitely something I take full pride in whilst
also acknowledging the people who don’t necessarily feel
comfortable in putting themselves out there.
My utmost priority is to see this collegiate program through. I
not only want to complete all four years of my college terms with
the Black Honors College, but I want to ensure that my fellow
cohort members are able to meet their respective goals as well. I
strive for this program to be a long lasting one and for the
naked eye to view us as legit rather than new to the system. One
of my many goals is to ensure that this program is provided with
all it’s necessities through the ASI, as I plan on working hand
in hand with them by being a direct means of communication for
the members of this cohort.
On April 16 and 17, I ask for your support. I believe my
experience, dedication, and vision make me the most qualified
candidate for this role. Thank you, and I hope to earn your vote!
Sincerely,
Chibuike Michael Ezeh.
